How To Maintain A Swimming Pool Heat Pump?

Dec 13, 2025

1. Regularly Clean Heat Exchangers

Water-side Heat Exchanger: Inspect monthly, removing scale, algae, and impurities. If the water is hard (high calcium and magnesium ion content), it is recommended to clean with a dedicated descaling agent quarterly to prevent clogging and reduced heat exchange efficiency.

Air-side Heat Exchanger: Clean dust, leaves, and other debris from the fins every 2-3 months. Use a soft brush or low-pressure water gun to rinse, taking care to avoid deforming the fins.

2. Check Refrigerant Pressure

Have a professional technician check the refrigerant pressure every six months (typically around 120-150 PSI on the low-pressure side and 350-450 PSI on the high-pressure side for R410A systems). Abnormal pressure may indicate a leak or compressor malfunction, requiring immediate attention.

3. Maintain Water Pump and Filtration System

Check the water pump's operating sound weekly to ensure there is no abnormal vibration.

Clean or replace the filter regularly (it is recommended to replace the quartz sand in the sand filter every year, and clean the cartridge filter every 3-6 months) to ensure smooth water flow and prevent the heat pump from shutting down due to insufficient water flow.

4. Electrical Component Inspection

After power off, check that all wiring terminals are secure to prevent poor contact and overheating.

Check the sensitivity of the control panel buttons and the display status. If any fault codes are present, troubleshoot immediately.

5. Winter Anti-freeze Measures

When the ambient temperature is below 4°C, drain the water from the heat pump or add antifreeze (such as propylene glycol). If the unit is to be shut down for an extended period, turn off the water supply and activate the unit's built-in anti-freeze circulation mode (if applicable).

6. Lubrication and Mechanical Maintenance

Add high-temperature grease (such as lithium-based grease) to the fan motor bearings annually to reduce wear.

Check that the compressor base bolts are not loose and that the shock-absorbing pads are not worn.
